GCoM South Asia recently held important meetings in Pune on 7th and 8th March 2024. The aim was to discuss and prioritise the key interventions planned/conceptualized as part of Pune Climate Action Plan. One first day, there was a meeting with the Additional Municipal Commissioner of Pune. This meeting was about understanding Pune's plans for a greener future/livable city and how to work together on them. The team from NIUA headed by Mr. Victor Shinde has presented the list of potential interventions (mitigation and adaption) in different sectors eg. Buildings, Transport, Energy, Water, Solid Waste etc. The specific roles of Pune Muncipal Corporation as well as other stakeholders and partners including - public and private was also discussed. The team has also discussed techno-economic feasibility as well as the potential financing sources to implement some of the suggested measures.
On the next day, there were talks with heads of departments like Solid Waste Management (SWM), Water, and Transport. In these talks, ideas were shared on what can be done to improve these areas, how much it might cost, and how to put these plans into action. Looking ahead, GCoM South Asia is planning a big meeting with many different groups. This will include NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), businesses, the media and will be chaired by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The goal is to get everyone's input and ideas on how to make Pune more sustainable. GCoM South Asia is commited to helping cities reach their climate change goals. By working together with different groups and sharing ideas, GCoM South Asia hopes to make Pune a cleaner and greener city for everyone.
