TRIVANDRUM, Kerala: Arya Rajendran, Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, signed the commitment letter to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM), thus making Trivandrum the 29th city from India and second city from Kerala to join this global network. DHARAMSHALA, Himachal Pradesh: Onkar Singh Nehria, Mayor of Dharamshala Municipal Corporation, signed the commitment letter to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM), thus making Dharamshala the 27th city from India to join this global network. National and local governments will identify the most effective way for integration of city-level Climate Action Plans within the NDC multilevel implementation process, involving financial institutions for a faster unlocking of climate action financing. New GCoM country-tailored initiatives to support multilevel climate action will be launched. During the 1st India - European Union Forum organized on 17-18 September 2019 in New Delhi, seven new Indian cities, namely Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Kochi and Vadodara signed the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCOM) commitment in presence of Mr. Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and other senior EU officials. Since the launch of GCOM-South Asia in May 2018, 15 Indian cities in total representing over 25 million people, have committed to climate action...
Both cities then applied for funding through the European Union International Urban Cooperation programme (IUC). Since december 2017 Rotterdam and Surat were officially paired as part of the IUC programme. After couple of exchange visits the outcome is that Rotterdam- Surat have developed implementable Water Resilience Plan for Surat.
