GCoM Asia cities and partners across Asia and the EU will gather in a closing workshop to share and celebrate the achievements and lessons learned during the three-and-a-half years of the GCoM Asia project.

 

Bangkok, Thailand — On June 12-13, representatives from GCoM Asia countries will gather in Bangkok, Thailand, alongside key technical partners to showcase all the progress and achievements made during the 3.5 years of the GCoM Asia project and conclude the project as a whole. This closing workshop will be an opportunity to highlight, share, and celebrate the collective achievements, lessons learned, and best practices of the various countries, cities, and technical partners involved in the GCoM Asia project across Asia and Europe. Around 100 participants from Korea, Japan, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Europe have been invited to the closing workshop.

This event will include meetings and sessions between cities and the various European Union and Asian stakeholders from local governments, technical partners, academia, and the private sector in discussing current plans and future steps in advancing and strengthening climate action and city resilience in Asia. Some of the key sessions include discussions on sustainable mobility, circular economy, energy transition, and climate finance opportunities. These conversations represent a continued commitment in Asia to urban climate action that was first initiated by the GCoM Asia project and will provide a platform to explore future collaboration between cities and partners across the region.

The closing workshop will take place at the Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse, and will culminate in a site visit along the city’s waterways to observe and learn from the EU-supported “bubble barrier” technology as a unique and innovative solution to Bangkok’s plastic pollution problem.
